I think the curators should be looking at the quality of the article one writes and its relevance and not what subjects personally interest them.

Really serious and useful stories on matters of extreme interest to most people are rarely selected for curation.

For example: The DAUSES of the present world economic crisis, That the West has only now realised that taking their eyes off the ball during Russia's invasion of Crimea was a mistake which has now caused them to over-react to the Ukraine invasion. Only now seeing the need to talk with China and work out a model where West and East can co-exist. Thinking about how parliament will operate after learning the lessons emanating from the inquiry into the UK Post Office scandal.

(I have not gone into a detailed analysis of those examples in this short reply)
