The Holy Trinity

God in Three Persons, the Blessed Trinity.

The concept of the Holy Trinity is not easy to explain. The bible doesn’t even mention the word, “trinity”.

And there’s a good reason for that. God is one being existing in 3 distinct persons. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each person is a God. It is not as if God was split into three different parts.

The concept is sometimes explained by giving water as an analogy. Water can be ice, a liquid, or a vapour. But, it’s not a good example. Water can have three forms. God does not have three forms. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are, each, a separate God in their own right.

This schematic is the best illustration of the idea of the Holy Trinity that I have found.

This article is, of course, my way of explaining the Holy Trinity in an easy-to-read summary form. You can read a longer version, with bible references, in the link below.

The Father.

The creator, initiating and directing, planning salvation. He sent his Son into the world

The Son.

Christ reveals the Father to us. And is our Saviour, providing our redemption by giving His life on the cross. The bible says Christ is the Word, for He communicated to us through miracles, parables, and by His example. In a sense, a “bridge” between the Father and us. Jesus Christ intercedes with the Father for our salvation. He acts as our mediator.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts. He helps, guides, and teaches us. Rather like a counsellor who helps us to understand God.
