Why has Gaza attacked Israel?
The “surprise” attack on Israel from Gaza on Saturday 7 October 2023
Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu, has stated that he will retaliate, following Saturday’s attack on Israel by the Palestinian territory of Gaza.
There are many videos, photos, and news reports on the attacks. The emphasis has been on the Gaza military taking Israeli civilian hostages as a kind of “human shield” to make a counter-attack by Netanyahu, who has now said Israel is at war with Palestine, difficult.
Israel will stop the supply of electricity, fuel, and goods to Gaza.
The planning of a coordinated attack of this kind would take two or three months at least. It would not, therefore, have been a “surprise” to the Israeli prime minister. I see the hand of Mossad, the famed Israeli intelligence service, in this.
Benjamin Netanyahu served, with distinction and influence, in the élite arm of the Israel Defence Force for several years. Although, as a politician, he is not formally part of Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, it is widely understood that he is a key player in its activities.
Netanyahu is not seen as favouring the recently agreed Saudi Arabia / Israel peace deal, which attempts to normalise diplomatic relations between Israel and Palestine. In his view, it is too supportive of Palestine. But Saudi Arabia, as a strong broker for peace in the Middle East, too powerful for Israel to challenge directly.
Saudi wants to see peace and reconciliation between Judaism and Islam.
